The WOODCHIPPER bass octave fuzz is derived from the classic Maestro Brassmaster circuit. In order to fit it all in a compact package, we sourced an expensive, military-spec audio transformer that delivers the same frequency response in a much smaller package. Next, we added a more flexible EQ section, and a unique BOTTOM control that adds clean low-bass that adds punch and fatness to the octave fuzz.

We combine durable true bypass relay switching with an effect-side FET switch for pure and smooth switching.

USA Made PCBs

Our circuit boards are made in the USA by Advanced Circuits (large PCB runs) or OSH Park (small PCB runs).

We use a charge pump to add headroom the EQ secton, plus both the CLEAN & BOTTOM sections, for a huge fuzz tone.

WIMA Capacitors

WIMA is a world leader in film capacitor technology. We use 5% tolerance for consistent tone from pedal to pedal.

The newly update Baxandall EQ offers a wide range of tonal options for the octave fuzz circuit in the Woodchipper.

DualMode Switching can convert the footswitch into momentary operation.

To use, wait 5 seconds, then press the sequence tap+tap+hold until LED flashes.

HOW THE WOODCHIPPER CAME TO BE

THE STORY

The first run of Woodchipper pedals were basically a clone of the original Maestro Brassmaster with an added BOTTOM control to blend back in clean, punchy bottom end. I quickly realized two things from this first design - the BOTTOM control is awesome, and the EQ of the original had a very limited, specific application set. I set out to overhaul the EQ section and make minor improvements elsewhere in the final design.

 

The Woodchipper is an octave fuzz designed to let you mangle your top end with bite & grit, while giving you a fat and punchy bottom end. While the clean blend is always good for bass, the BOTTOM control is what really makes this a bass-friendly fuzz that packs a punch.

Here is the list of the older versions of the Woodchipper circuit:

 

#1 - The goal of the first version of the Woodchipper was to miniaturize the vintage Maestro Brassmaster octave fuzz. By using a miniature, military-spec transformer and some very efficient use of circuit board space, not only did it fit, but a unique BOTTOM control was added to let the player dial in clean bottom end that blends perfectly with the octave fuzz section.

 

Here is what is new in the current version:

- Versatile, active Baxandall EQ replaces the static EQ switches of the original

- More output, and tweaks to the EQ balance and filters

- More headroom in the BOTTOM and CLEAN pathways, for a bigger and punchy bottom end.
